In the heart of the Chianti area, just a few kilometers from Florence is the Renaissance "Villa Il Poggiale", classified as a historical home, entirely restored by its owners with the aim of offering the hospitality and atmosphere of a patrician family country house at really affordable prices.

The Villa has wonderful light and spacious rooms.

The large hall, the heart of the house, with its beautifully painted doors, has comfortable armchairs and welcoming sofas, while various other smaller lounges offer quiet, cozy corners for reading and relaxation.

Seated under the Renaissance Loggia, guests can look out over the formal Italian gardens and be enveloped in the fragrance of old roses and flowering shrubs.
 
Ornamental bushes also grow in the beautiful central courtyard and garden surrounding the swimming pool.

Breakfast:

Breakfast is served in the bright and cheerful former playroom of the children.
 
The buffet that we serve can be justly called a "Tuscan Breakfast". Fresh ricotta cheese, jams, honey and prosciutto are supplied by nearby farms. Apple cinnamon cake, fruit tart, brioche bread, chocolate cake and quiches are all home made, some of which from old family recipes.
 
A lovely day in the countryside starts with a good breakfast.

Meeting room

The "Tinaia", the old wine cellar, is a vast vaulted room opening onto the garden. It is now used as a meeting room for small conventions (30/40 people)
 
Swimming pool (20 x 6 meters)

Open from May 15th to October 15th. On request, a delicious light lunch can be prepared in the house.
 
Transport

It is possible to book a car transfer service to and from the following destinations: Florence airport (€ 40), Pisa airport (€ 95), Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence (€ 35).
 
Car rental with driver

Cars with driver are available for tours of the surrounding areas and of any other part of Tuscany.

Elena is a professional masseuse and expert on various beauty treatments. Hers, is a very special personal touch, entirely in tune with the atmosphere of Il Poggiale.

The Olive Harvest

Wine and olive-oil are the two hallmarks of Tuscany. You can take part in the gathering of the olives, in their pressing in the ancient olive presses and, as the new oil drips into the vats, taste the original Tuscan extra-virgin olive-oil at the source, smeared onto a slice of warm toasted Tuscan bread.

Cooking Lessons

From traditional country cooking to the more refined cuisine of today, a complete range of Tuscan gastronomy as well as that of other Italian regions, is available for food lovers and aspiring chefs: from the Piedmont with its French influence, to the rich and imaginative cooking of Naples, and to the Arab and Spanish heritage inherent in Sicilian cuisine. We will be happy to prepare a personalized cooking course for you.

The Truffles of San Miniato

Villa Il Poggiale is about 30 minutes drive from San Miniato. The area surrounding this charming medieval town is famous for its plentiful truffles. It is possible to take part in a truffle hunt, following the dogs which are specially trained for just this task by their owners, who collect these priceless tubers and who are a source of inexhaustible information. In the squares and streets of the town, during the last weekend of November, there is a very colorful festival in their honor, with dozens of stalls selling truffles of every shape and size.

Wine Tasting in the heart of the Chianti area

In the lovely Medieval village of Badia a Passignano, "Wine tasting" sessions are available in the historical wine cellars owned by the Antinori Marquises. Beside the wine cellar, there is an elegant high-quality restaurant also owned by the Antinori family. It is also possible to arrange "Wine tasting" sessions in some of the best wine farms of the Chianti area.

The city centre of  Florence is at only 20 minutes from Villa Il Poggiale.

For Art lovers

It is possible to reach the most beautiful art cities of Tuscany, such as Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Certaldo, Volterra, Pienza, Montepulciano and many more in less than an hour.
 
For lovers of the countryside

Trips to the various towns in the Chianti Classico area: Greve, Gaiole, Radda, Castellina, Panzano, and many other enchanting villages and towns in the surrounding areas. To reach these places we would suggest taking the less well-known roads in order to delight in the wonderful landscapes far from the madding crowd!
 
For Food and Wine Lovers

The Villa will suggest a choice of "trattorie" and restaurants for every taste and pocket within a radius of about 20 minutes, as well as vineyards and cellars where it is possible to taste and buy wines, olive-oil and other local produce.
 
For golfers

The Ugolino Golf Course, one of the best golf clubs in Italy, is not more than 25 minutes from Villa Il Poggiale. Tee times at special rates for our guests.
