The convent has a long and fascinating history. It originated from a poor monk of the order of Frati Minori Conventuali or Barbanti, Brother Agostino da Miglionico, who built a little cell deep inside the mountain that was later transformed, with the help of Fra Girolamo da S. Agata, into a comfortable little convent. The convent, which has always been a reference point for the Napolitan people, is strictly entwined with the historic, political, and religious events, which, throughout the centuries, have marked the history of Naples and of Italy. The Convent of Santa Lucia al Monte in time became a blinding beacon of spirituality, populated by religious people that preferred a contemplative life to an active one, and many of them, like San Giovan Giuseppe della Croce and Santa Maria Francesca, gained the fame of the Blessed and the Saints. Today, the antique convent has been restructured with full respect to its historic and artistic value, and has become the elegant and accommodating Hotel San Francesco al Monte. The charm of the ambience remains intact, and every detail has been restored to its old splendour. The swimming pool is available from 09:00-17:30.
